A severe heatwave warning is set to remain in effect for Seoul for a second consecutive day through today (the 5th).

The areas under the severe warning are expanding, including the greater Seoul metropolitan area. Weather forecaster Park Se-rim has the details.

Extreme heat that makes it difficult to breathe even after just a short time outside is continuing.

Currently, the severe heatwave warning, which is the highest tier among heatwave alert levels, is in effect centered around all of Seoul, parts of the greater Seoul metropolitan area, and the Honam region.

It is expected to be expanded and take effect once again in Incheon and some parts of Gyeonggi Province this morning.

Yesterday, daytime temperatures in Seoul hit 36.9°C (98°F), marking the hottest day of the year so far.

Today, temperatures are expected to reach 38°C (100°F), breaking the record for the highest temperature of this summer in just one day.

Looking at detailed daytime temperatures, Jeonju and Gwangju will rise to 38°C (100°F), and Daejeon to 37°C (99°F).

Daegu will reach 36°C (97°F), while Gangneung will peak at a relatively lower 31°C (88°F).

Currently, temperatures in Seoul are approaching 30°C (86°F), and tropical nights are expected to continue in Seoul for a second week.

As temperatures rise and the atmosphere becomes unstable, showers are expected in the Honam region and the west coast of South Chungcheong Province from morning until evening today, and around the evening commute time in Seoul and some western parts of the greater Seoul metropolitan area.

Jeju will see 5 to 20 mm of rain through tomorrow.

Skies nationwide will be mostly clear today.

This weekend, rain is forecast mainly centered around the east coast and Jeju.
