A man in his 70s who collapsed while taking a walk in a park amid a scorching nighttime heat wave has been rescued following a police search.
According to the Dalseo Police Station in Daegu, a report was filed stating that 72-year-old A, who went out for a walk to Songhyeon Park at 11:40 PM on the 3rd, could not be reached, police said on the 4th.
Based on mobile phone location data and other information, police searched the Songhyeon Park area and found A collapsed in a puddle near the walking trail at 0:38 AM the following day, about an hour after the report was received.
At the time, A was reportedly showing symptoms of heat-related illness, such as dehydration and a decreased level of consciousness, and was transported to a hospital.
The Dalseo Police Station advised, "Even a short outing can cause elderly individuals to lose consciousness due to dehydration and heat-related illnesses, so they should go out with a companion whenever possible."
