Easterly winds have been continuously pumping hot air into the western regions.
For the first time this summer, the highest level of heat wave special warning, the severe heat wave warning, has been issued for the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul, and parts of the Honam region.
Intense heat is expected to persist day and night in the western regions for the time being.
Today (August 5), the daytime high in Seoul is expected to reach 38°C (100°F), slightly higher than yesterday.
Even at night, the apparent temperature will stay above 30°C (86°F), leading to severe nighttime heat.
You must pay special attention to preventing heat-related illnesses.
Meanwhile, showers are expected in parts of the western regions again today, and rain will fall in the mountainous areas of Jeju between today and tomorrow.
Tropical nights are expected to continue as the heat fails to dissipate overnight.
Looking at daytime highs, temperatures are projected to climb to 38°C (100°F) in Seoul and Jeonju, and 36°C (97°F) in Daegu.
There is rain forecast for the east coast and Jeju this weekend, while inland areas will remain generally clear for the time being.
