World-renowned director Christopher Nolan, visiting South Korea for the first time in his life, stopped by SBS. In an exclusive interview with SBS, Director Nolan shared behind-the-scenes stories from the production of his new film 'Odyssey' as well as his unique philosophy on filmmaking in the age of AI.

Cheers erupt as Director Christopher Nolan steps into SBS in Mok-dong, Seoul.

Responding to fans' requests for autographs one by one, Director Nolan expressed his special gratitude toward South Korean fans during an interview with 'News Hunters'.

[Christopher Nolan / Film Director: When 'Interstellar' was released a few years ago, countless South Korean audiences came to see it. Ever since then, I've really wanted to come to Korea, meet the audience, and feel that passion firsthand.]

Widely regarded as the greatest director of our time for his deep depictions of the human inner self, Nolan.

He stated that the story of his new film 'Odyssey' was indeed the starting point for many of his past works.

[Christopher Nolan / Film Director: Countless themes and narrative archetypes that I've treated importantly throughout my cinematic career actually have their roots in 'Odyssey'. It was a truly fascinating discovery.]

Having insisted on realistic direction using practical effects instead of computer graphics—to the extent of building a cornfield from scratch for six months of filming and acquiring a real airplane to blow up—he emphasized that as AI becomes more advanced, the core of cinema ultimately remains creativity.

[Christopher Nolan / Film Director: My interest lies in utilizing these technological tools alongside the creative human artists I collaborate with. I believe that when technology is harnessed in this manner, it results in a work that everyone can take pride in, a work people can genuinely believe in and immerse themselves in.]

Director Nolan evaluated that South Korean filmmakers are reshaping cultural trends, and introduced his delightful meeting with Director Park Chan-wook that took place during his visit.

[Christopher Nolan / Film Director: Director Park Chan-wook said to me, 'You should enjoy your vacation and get some rest. But don't rest for too long, because I really want to see your next project.' Frankly speaking, hearing those words made me quite exhausted.]

Director Nolan emphasized that through this film, he desperately wanted to convey the meaning of 'mutual respect'—a value that underpins civilization—to modern society.
