Extreme heatwaves are sweeping the nation.

While the highest-tier severe heat warnings remain in effect for the greater Seoul and Honam regions, Seoul’s daytime high reached 36.8°C (98°F) today (August 4), breaking its record for the highest temperature of the year just a day after setting it.

Temperatures in Gangnam-gu soared to a scorching 39.2°C (102°F).

Amid the sweltering heat, much-needed rain is falling in various areas.

Showers are passing through at a rate of around 10 mm per hour.

Scattered showers yielding 5 to up to 60 mm are expected to pass through most regions, including the capital area, until tonight, offering a temporary reprieve from the heat.

Tomorrow's morning low in Seoul is forecast at 27°C (81°F), marking the 14th consecutive day of tropical nights.

Tomorrow's daytime high in Seoul is expected to climb even higher than today to 38°C (100°F).

While some light rain is expected in Jeju between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, other regions will continue to experience clear weather, requiring extra caution for health management.
