This week, as the wind direction shifts to easterly, extreme heat will grip western regions.

Consequently, severe heat warnings have been issued for the first time this year in southern Seoul, southern Gyeonggi Province, Gwangju, and South Jeolla Province.

Today, August 4, daytime temperatures in Seoul and Gwangju are expected to soar to 38°C (100°F), while Hanam will spike to 39°C (102°F).

As easterly winds are set to persist throughout the week, extreme heat with daytime temperatures hovering around 37°C (99°F) in Seoul will continue.

Outdoor activities should be avoided as much as possible.

Meanwhile, localized, heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds and lightning are expected in parts of the western regions, including southern Gyeonggi Province.

Light raindrops are expected along the East Coast due to the influence of easterly winds.

The rest of the country will be mostly clear.

Tropical nights will persist overnight in most areas, including Seoul, and daytime highs will reach 38°C (100°F) in Seoul and 34°C (93°F) in Ulsan, making the western regions even hotter.

Since extreme heat will continue in the western regions throughout the week, health management is more crucial than ever.
