Israel has expressed serious concerns to the United States regarding an agreement concerning the disarmament of Hamas, foreign media outlets including the Associated Press reported on the 2nd, local time.

This marks the first official stance from an Israeli official since U.S. President Donald Trump announced on July 30 that the Gaza Peace Committee had reached an agreement on the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

According to the reports, Doron Spielman, a spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, stated that Israeli intelligence assesses Hamas is not genuinely attempting to demilitarize, but is rather focusing on rebuilding its military capabilities, adding that "serious security concerns" were conveyed to the White House.

He also emphasized that with the Israeli military controlling over 60 percent of the Gaza Strip, Israel will not withdraw from the area until Hamas is disarmed.

This essentially places Israel's stance leaning toward a rejection of the agreement, which President Trump had lauded as "monumental."

As Hamas confirmed the agreement the day after it was announced while also stating that Israel's withdrawal is a precondition for disarmament, the implementation of the agreement is expected to face hurdles.

President Trump remarked during a cabinet meeting on July 31, in response to a reporter's question about whether Israel's withdrawal or Hamas's disarmament should come first, that "we are on the same page with Israel, and Israel likes it very much."

A related source told the Associated Press that Israel conveyed this position through former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who is a member of the peace committee, and that one of Israel's demands was the authority to freely conduct military operations within the Gaza Strip.

According to the agreement text obtained by the Associated Press, all weapons held by Hamas are to be transferred to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a Palestinian technocratic body.

In addition, the disposal and storage of heavy weapons, as well as the dismantling of military production facilities and tunnels, are set to begin following the arrival of the NCAG and the deployment of an international stabilization force, with this process linked to Israel's phased withdrawal.

Hamas has also warned that ongoing Israeli airstrikes could disrupt the disarmament plan for the Gaza Strip.

A senior Hamas official told Al Jazeera that unless Israel halts its intensifying airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, the U.S.-backed plan centered on the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces will face setbacks.

According to Hamas health authorities, Israeli airstrikes killed 18 people in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.

This marks the highest daily death toll reported in recent months.
