Heat-related illnesses are continuously occurring in Seoul amid the relentless heatwave.

According to official statistics released by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 18 people suffered from heat-related illnesses in Seoul yesterday (the 2nd).

The cumulative number of heat-related illness patients since May 15 of this year totals 185, including 2 deaths.

The Korea Meteorological Administration upgraded the heatwave advisory for the northwestern region of Seoul—which had remained under an advisory—to a heatwave warning on the 2nd, thereby issuing heatwave warnings across the entire city.

A major heatwave warning will take effect for the southeastern and southwestern regions starting at 11:00 a.m. on the 4th.

This marks the first time a major heatwave warning has been issued for Seoul since its implementation on June 1 of this year.

The city government is operating a heatwave situation room consisting of 550 personnel across 104 teams, and raised the heatwave crisis alert level from Caution to Alert on the 2nd.

Additionally, support and protection activities are underway for a total of 61,922 vulnerable citizens, including 1,950 homeless individuals, 517 residents in rooftop or gosiwon-style makeshift rooms, 42,382 elderly people living alone, 3,498 individuals with disabilities or chronic illnesses, and 13,575 outdoor workers.

Furthermore, a total of 9,849 facilities are currently in operation, including Climate Companion shelters, heatwave shelters, emergency evacuation shelters, mobile worker shelters, and heatwave reduction facilities.
