President Lee Jae-myung has returned to South Korea after an 11-day, 7-nation tour. Upon his return, the President headed straight to the Blue House to preside over a meeting inspecting real estate policies and the stock market.

President Lee Jae-myung arrived at Seoul Air Base this morning (August 3), passing through Frankfurt, Germany, after wrapping up his visits to San Francisco, U.S., and three South American countries: Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.

President Lee moved directly to the Blue House, where he has been presiding over a closed-door inspection meeting on real estate policies and the stock market since 3:00 PM.

The inspection meeting was attended by Prime Minister Han Sung-sook, cabinet ministers from related ministries including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Financial Services Commission, as well as Blue House aides.

As the government's upcoming real estate tax reform package is reportedly being prepared to increase tax burdens on ultra-high-priced homes and non-owner-occupied housing, relevant discussions are expected to take place.

Other major topics covered at the meeting include the direction of real estate supply and loan regulations, as well as overall housing policies.

Measures to respond to stock market conditions, such as the KOSPI index which experienced unprecedented volatility last week, were also brought to the discussion table.

In particular, discussions are reportedly underway regarding "single-stock leveraged ETFs," which have been cited as one of the causes of recent stock price volatility.

Furthermore, the meeting is expected to have analyzed the market effects of the financial authorities' supplementary measures regarding ETFs implemented since last week, followed by debates on additional alternatives.

President Lee's decision to hold a meeting on domestic economic issues immediately upon his return is interpreted as a clear signal of his intent to fill any vacuum left by his 11-day, 7-nation overseas tour and focus on domestic pending issues.

Starting tomorrow, President Lee is also scheduled to receive policy briefings from 27 ministries, agencies, and commissions, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of Justice, which is seen in the same context.
