The Marine Corps announced today (August 3) that a non-commissioned officer was found dead following a firearm incident at a military apartment for officers and NCOs in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province.

The incident took place at an off-base quarters exclusively for military personnel, and the deceased is known to have held the rank of staff sergeant.

According to reports, no signs of foul play by an outside party were found at the scene.

A Marine Corps official stated, "We are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident in cooperation with related agencies, including military and police authorities."
