People Power Party Representative Chang Dong-hwy criticized the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, which focuses on abolishing prosecutors' supplementary investigation powers, following its passage at the plenary session of the National Assembly, calling it a "law that only benefits criminals" and urging President Lee Jae-myung to exercise his veto power.

The leadership of the People Power Party held an on-site Supreme Council meeting in front of the Blue House this morning (August 3).

Speaking at the meeting, Representative Chang claimed, "When it was declared that the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act containing the abolition of supplementary investigation powers had passed, the rule of law in South Korea received a death sentence," adding, "The incompetence, irresponsibility, and ruthlessness of the Democratic Party and the Lee Jae-myung administration are destroying the entire nation of South Korea."

He went on to directly criticize, saying, "Even Democratic Party lawmakers, the legal community, and a majority of the public oppose the abolition of supplementary investigation powers, yet only the Democratic Party insists it is a better law. It is a law that is only better for criminals, including President Lee Jae-myung."

Representative Chang stated, "The sole reason the People Power Party is holding its Supreme Council here today is to urge President Lee Jae-myung to exercise his veto power against this ruthless and evil law," adding, "Exercising the veto power over this law is neither the president's prerogative nor a matter of choice; it is the command of the people and the command of history."

He further added, "If the exercise of the veto power is rejected, public demands for impeachment to protect South Korea will grow even stronger."
