A death suspected to be caused by a heat-related illness has occurred in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, where a heat wave warning is in effect.

According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, a report was filed with 119 by a neighbor at around 5:00 p.m. yesterday (August 2) stating that an 80-year-old man, identified as A, had collapsed inside a vinyl greenhouse in Gochon-eup, Gimpo.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene following the report, Mr. A was already dead, and rigor mortis had reportedly set in.

Fire authorities and the police believe that Mr. A died from a heat-related illness after going out to work in the fields, and they are investigating the exact circumstances.

A heat wave advisory was issued for Gimpo on July 23, which was subsequently upgraded to a heat wave warning on August 1.

A heat wave warning is issued when the highest perceived temperature exceeds 35°C (95°F) for two or more consecutive days or when severe damage from the heat is expected.
