A major fire broke out on a passenger ship carrying 271 people off the coast of East Java, Indonesia, on the morning of the 2nd, local time.

Indonesian rescue authorities reported that the fire resulted in 5 deaths and 41 missing persons, while the remaining 225 people were rescued.

At the time of the accident, the passenger ship was en route from Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia's second-largest city, to another city.

Authorities stated that they have deployed rescue teams to conduct search operations and plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire once the rescue operations are completed.
