Police have apprehended over 5,200 drug offenders during a intensive crackdown on narcotics in the first half of this year.

Among them, about 1,000 individuals have been placed under arrest.

The National Office of Investigation under the Korean National Police Agency announced today (August 2) that as a result of a three-month intensive crackdown starting in March, it apprehended 5,203 drug offenders and formally arrested 1,039 of them.

Police plan to focus their investigative capabilities in the second half of the year by adding online and foreign-related drug crimes as key targets for intensive enforcement.
