An object presumed to be an antipersonnel landmine has been discovered along the Imjin River in Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province.

At around 9:25 AM yesterday (August 1), a suspicious object was first spotted by a vacationer passing by the Imjin River area in Baekhak-myeon.

The vacationer immediately reported it to the police, stating that an object resembling a landmine was visible.

Upon receiving the report, military authorities were dispatched to the scene and safely retrieved the object.

Military authorities believe that the object is an antipersonnel landmine that washed down from North Korea due to recent heavy rainfall.

Fortunately, no casualties occurred during the landmine retrieval process.

Regarding the incident, the local government of Yeoncheon-gun urged residents to exercise caution regarding washed-away landmines.

Yeoncheon-gun explained that as the effects of the heavy downpour persist, residents should refrain from approaching riverbanks for the time being.

In addition, they repeatedly requested that if anyone discovers a washed-away landmine, they must not touch it under any circumstances and should immediately report it to the military or police.
