U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has called off a large-scale military strike against Iran that had been anticipated for this weekend.

Writing on his Truth Social account on August 1 local time, President Trump stated, "I have received a request from Iran and other Middle Eastern nations, stating that agreement has been reached on the framework of a deal, and asking that any attacks be held off."

Trump conveyed that "this deal includes the immediate, complete, and total opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the end of Iran's nuclear threat."

He added, "In accordance with these requests, for the future of the world, and at the same time for the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, I have agreed to call off the strikes under the condition that a deal can be reached swiftly," noting that "Israel also joins me in this commitment."

Previously, U.S. media outlets including CBS News and The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that the U.S. and Israel planned to strike Iranian energy facilities and other targets this weekend. In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had adopted a hardline stance, stating that Tehran would respond resolutely to any aggression.
