There is no end in sight to the extreme heat. Today (August 1), the temperature in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, soared to 41.6°C (107°F). This breaks South Korea's highest temperature record once again, just a day after it was set. Meanwhile, the east coast experienced a "super tropical night," with temperatures remaining above 30°C (86°F) even through the night.

At the weather observation station in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, the temperature surged to 41.6°C (107°F) today, breaking the record once again.

A total of seven observation points, including Changwon, Yeosu, Gimhae, Miryang, and Northern Busan, recorded their highest temperatures in observation history.

In particular, Gimhae reached 40.6°C (105°F), Changwon 40.4°C (105°F), and Northern Busan 40.3°C (105°F), surpassing the 40°C mark for the first time.

Areas under severe heat wave warnings have expanded to South Jeolla and North Gyeongsang provinces.

In Goryeong, North Gyeongsang Province, where a severe warning was issued today, the intense heat has left the local market completely devoid of visitors.

Yangsan, which has exceeded 40°C for four consecutive days for the first time in meteorological observation history, is forecast to surpass 40°C again tomorrow.

In particular, westerly winds blowing along the edge of the high-pressure system cross over mountain ranges, creating hot winds that are intensifying the heat waves in the South Gyeongsang region.

Due to these westerly winds, Gangneung experienced its first "super tropical night" of the year, with nighttime temperatures staying above 30°C (86°F).

Last night, the minimum temperature dropped to only 30.2°C (86°F) in Gangneung and 30.7°C (87°F) in Goseong, marking intense nighttime heat that far exceeded the 25°C (77°F) threshold for a tropical night.

Tonight, the minimum temperature in Gangneung is expected to ease slightly to 28°C (82°F), but the felt temperature will still remain above 30°C (86°F).

Heat-related illnesses caused by the scorching weather continue to rise, with 72 patients reported yesterday alone.
