The first "super tropical night" phenomenon of the year has been recorded along the east coast, including Gangneung.

While a tropical night is defined as a night when the overnight low stays above 25°C (77°F), a super tropical night refers to a phenomenon where the lowest temperature exceeds 30°C (86°F).

Overnight lows plummeted no further than 30.2°C (86.4°F) in Gangneung and Samcheok, 30.6°C (87.1°F) in Hajodae, Yangyang, and 30.7°C (87.3°F) in Hyeonnae-myeon, Goseong. The lowest temperature in Cheonbu-myeon, Ulleungdo, also reached 30.4°C (86.7°F).

Last year, a super tropical night was observed in Gangneung on July 2, making this year's occurrence about a month later.

Experts analyze that amid high humidity, westerly winds crossed the mountain ranges, and the descending air heated up, driving up temperatures along the east coast.
