KOSPI Surges 17.9% to Reclaim 6,500 Mark in Record-Breaking Rally

Bouncing back from a three-day plunge, the KOSPI soared to record its largest gains in history.

Today (the 31st), the KOSPI closed at 6,595.45, up 1,001.89 points (17.91%) from the previous session, setting record highs for both point increase and percentage gain.

The second-largest percentage gain was 11.95% recorded on October 30, 2008, during the global financial crisis, while the second-largest point increase was 612.52 points recorded on the 9th of last month.

The index started the session up 64.23 points (1.15%) at 5,657.79, quickly reclaiming the 6,000 threshold.

At one point during intra-day trading, it surged as high as 6,630.77 (+18.54%).

Due to the sharp surge in the domestic stock market, buy sidecars were successively triggered in both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets during early trading.

The KOSDAQ index also finished the session up 74.98 points (11.63%) at 719.76.
