Players and coaching staff in English football who engage in discriminatory language or behavior, including racism, will face a minimum suspension of 10 matches starting from the upcoming new season.

The Football Association (FA) announced the introduction of new regulations significantly raising the level of disciplinary action to foster a discrimination-free football environment.

Under previous regulations, offenses targeting race, skin color, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability resulted in suspensions ranging from 6 to a maximum of 12 matches.

However, beginning next season, the disciplinary floor will be raised to a minimum 10-match ban.

The strengthened disciplinary rules will apply without exception to managers and coaching staff, as well as players on the pitch.

In a statement, the FA explained the background of the adoption, saying, "Despite notable progress in recent years, discriminatory behavior remains a critical challenge across football, and stronger measures are needed to combat such hateful conduct."

Depending on the Regulatory Commission's judgment, heavier penalties exceeding the 10-match baseline may be imposed if aggravating factors are recognized.

In addition, repeat offenders who commit discriminatory acts on two or more separate occasions could face penalties exceeding 12 matches, or even an indefinite suspension for severe cases.

However, only in exceptional circumstances where there are mitigating factors or where the individual admits wrongdoing at an early stage can the suspension be reduced to a minimum of 6 matches, as was previously the case.

Unlike the past, when 6 matches served as the baseline starting point for punishment, the reduced penalty will now apply exceptionally only when grounds for mitigation are clear.
