At around 6:36 p.m. today (July 30), a ceiling collapsed at an unlimited refill restaurant in Yanggeun-ri, Yangpyeong-eup, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, injuring 14 people.
The accident occurred when the ceiling of the one-story lightweight steel-framed restaurant, with a total floor area of some 2,300 square meters, suddenly collapsed.
At the time of the accident, the steel structures and panels of the ceiling crashed down onto the restaurant floor.
As a result, 2 men and 12 women sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.
About 60 customers were inside the restaurant at the time and reportedly evacuated outside after the accident.
Fire authorities dispatched personnel to the scene to transport the injured, set up an emergency medical station, and take safety measures.
Chaos reportedly ensued for a while as startled customers evacuated following the sudden accident.
A netizen posted on a local online community in Yangpyeong, saying, "I was at the restaurant when the accident happened today, and the child who was with me seems so traumatized that we need to go to the hospital," adding, "Even I am experiencing muscle aches from the shock."
Police are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident.
