Temperatures in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, have surpassed 40°C (104°F) for two consecutive days.

Reaching 40°C two days in a row is an extremely rare occurrence.

According to Korea Meteorological Administration observations on July 30, the temperature in Yangsan hit 40.0°C (104°F) at 1:10 PM today.

This comes after temperatures soared past the 40°C mark yesterday afternoon to reach 40.3°C (104.5°F), marking another day above the threshold.

Yesterday, temperatures crossed the 40°C line at 3:30 PM, but today it was surpassed even earlier, raising the strong possibility that the final peak will be even higher.

Looking at observation records since 1973, when the nationwide meteorological observation network was expanded and set as the baseline for various weather records, there have been no instances of a region recording 40°C or higher for two or more consecutive days except in 2016 and 2018, which experienced the worst heat wave of the 21st century.
