It has been revealed that a man in his 50s, who was captured by police yesterday (July 29) in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, following a high-speed pursuit spanning about 50 km, was subdued with a Taser gun after threatening a temple visitor with a mock firearm and fleeing.

Jinju Police Station announced today (July 30) that they are investigating a man in his 50s, identified as A, on charges including special intimidation and special obstruction of official duties.

A is accused of threatening a visitor with a mock firearm he was carrying in the parking lot of a temple in Jiphyeon-myeon, Jinju, at around 2:50 PM yesterday (July 29).

Immediately after the crime, he attempted to flee in a passenger car, hitting another visitor who tried to block his escape before driving away.

Responding police officers blocked escape routes and engaged in a pursuit lasting approximately 50 km.

As he fled from pursuing officers, A strongly resisted by ramming into three patrol cars and one detective squad vehicle consecutively.

Police blocked off A's vehicle and fired two blank rounds and four live rounds to bring the car to a halt.

Officers then smashed the driver's side window with a baton and discharged a Taser gun to finally subdue and apprehend A.

A police official stated, "We plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A after investigating how he came to possess the mock firearm and the motive behind the crime."
