As the relentless heatwave continues to intensify, daytime temperatures in Yangsan surged past 40°C (104°F) yesterday (the 29th).

This marks the first time on record that temperatures reached 40°C (104°F) in July at a climate observation station.

The sweltering heat persisted not just through the day, but throughout the night as well.

With temperatures in Yangsan and Busan refusing to drop below 29.1°C (84°F) and 28.5°C (83°F) respectively, it was the most oppressive night on record for both areas.

The unrelenting heat, both day and night, is expected to continue for the time being.

Heat advisories have been further upgraded to heatwave warnings in many regions, and with heatwave critical warnings expanding across South Gyeongsang Province, daytime temperatures in these areas are once again expected to approach 40°C (104°F) today.

Tropical nights are also forecast to persist in most regions overnight.

Today's daytime highs are expected to reach 34°C (93°F) in Seoul, 37°C (99°F) in Daegu, and 38°C (100°F) in Ulsan.

Next week, daytime temperatures in Seoul are projected to exceed 35°C (95°F), causing the heat to worsen even further.
