U.S. President Donald Trump vowed a high-intensity retaliation on local time Tuesday (the 29th) in response to what he described as another attack by Iran targeting a U.S. military base in Jordan.
According to Fox News, President Trump used strong language during a telephone interview with the network earlier that morning, stating, "We're going to hit them hard."
He emphasized, "We are going to strike powerfully. They are going to get hit."
President Trump explained that U.S. forces had only a matter of minutes to respond to the surprise attack by Iran, but successfully intercepted all incoming targets before they could strike.
The U.S. Central Command previously announced the previous evening that Iran had launched a barrage of ballistic missiles in a surprise attack targeting U.S. military bases in the Middle East, all of which were successfully intercepted by U.S. forces.
