The musical 'Beethoven' has entered its final stretch with a stage combining more refined narratives, actors' delicate character interpretations, and explosive vocals.

Having opened on June 9, the musical 'Beethoven' will wrap up its entire run on August 11. Compared to its 2023 premiere, the newly returned 'Beethoven' has drawn favorable reviews from audiences for its upgraded narrative and music.

This season reorganizes the narrative of the existing production while focusing more on the inner self of the human 'Ludwig van Beethoven,' who did not let go of his will for art amidst the trial of hearing loss. In addition, the actors' distinct character interpretations and deepened chemistry present performances with varying charms at every show.

In particular, Park Hyo-shin and Hong Kwang-ho, who play the role of Ludwig, lead the center of the production with their outstanding vocal prowess and contrasting character interpretations. From Beethoven's loneliness and despair to his burning aspiration for creation, the two actors vividly reveal the inner aspects of the character with their respective musical colors.

Park Hyo-shin, returning to the stage following the premiere, portrays Ludwig—who does not give up his art even amid loneliness and despair—with his signature delicate emotional line. He densely builds up the character's scars and agony, leaving a strong lingering impression with explosive vocals intertwined with the flow of emotions.

Hong Kwang-ho, newly joining this season, dynamically embodies Ludwig's persistent yearning and energy toward creation. He vividly conveys Ludwig's artistic aspiration with solid vocals and overwhelming stage dominance, and even performs actual piano playing himself to complete his own Ludwig.

The two actors, who approached the character in different ways, unravel the maestro's loneliness and aspiration with their respective colors, adding a much richer texture to the character of 'Ludwig van Beethoven.'

In this production, the relationship between 'Antonie (Toni) Brentano' and Beethoven is also depicted much more clearly. Toni understands Beethoven's artistic convictions while staying by his side as he gradually becomes cut off from the world, positioning herself as a presence that gives him the strength to carry on with his life and art.

Yoon Gong-ju anchors the play with her solid experience and deep emotional expression, while Kim Ji-hyun portrays her relationship with Beethoven through a warm and delicate chemistry. Kim Ji-woo completes her own Toni with independent character interpretation and detailed psychological expression. Meanwhile, Shin Sung-min and Kim Do-hyun, who play the younger brother 'Caspar van Beethoven' caught in conflict between affection for his brother and rebellion, also add tension to the play with their respective charms.

Depending on the combinations created by Park Hyo-shin and Hong Kwang-ho as Ludwig, Yoon Gong-ju, Kim Ji-hyun, and Kim Ji-woo as Toni, and Shin Sung-min and Kim Do-hyun as Caspar, the relationships and drama among the characters unfold with slightly different textures.

Duet numbers themed around Beethoven's piano sonata 'Pathétique' and piano concerto 'Emperor,' along with Sylvester Levay's new song 'Forever True,' dramatically drive the characters' emotions and relationship changes. In addition, the intense movements and mise-en-scène of the 'spirits' that constantly drive Ludwig to creation elevate the musical and visual completion of the work.

Combining the power of classical original scores with modern musical grammar, the musical 'Beethoven' unfolds the story of a maestro's life and art, and a human being marching toward their path amidst trials, right on stage.

The musical 'Beethoven' will be performed at the Grand Theater of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul until August 11.
