A man arrested on charges of murdering a woman at an officetel in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, has tested positive in a preliminary drug screening.

The Seoul Gangbuk Police Station announced that a preliminary drug test administered to the man in his 50s, identified as A, who faces charges of murder and violations of the Narcotics Control Act, came back positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.

Suspect A was emergency arrested at around 1:40 a.m. yesterday (July 28) on charges of fatally stabbing a woman in her 50s with a weapon at an officetel in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.

Police discovered substances suspected to be narcotics, including marijuana and methamphetamine, at the crime scene and have requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service.

During police questioning, A reportedly admitted to using drugs but has been refusing to make statements regarding the murder.

Authorities have determined that A and the victim were not family members or cohabitants, but police are investigating the possibility that the crime was related to a personal relationship.

Police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A as early as today (July 29).
