The film 'Love Impossible' has announced its theatrical and Netflix release schedules, officially kicking off preparations for its premiere.

On the 28th, Netflix announced that "'Love Impossible' is scheduled to open in South Korean theaters on September 23 before meeting global viewers worldwide through Netflix on November 6."

'Love Impossible' tells the story of a laid-off worker and his wife, alongside a documentary director and her husband—two couples who meet to produce a documentary, confronting each other's different lives and hidden desires. It is the highly anticipated new film by Lee Chang-dong, a leading figure in the Korean film industry, returning with his first new work in eight years, and stars Sol Kyung-gu, Jeon Do-yeon, Zo In-sung, and Cho Yeo-jeong.

The unusual theatrical release for a Netflix film like 'Love Impossible' is a strategic move targeting next year's Academy Awards. To meet the eligibility requirements for the Oscars, a film must have a theatrical run ahead of its OTT release.

This follows the same approach used by other Netflix films such as 'The Frankenstein', 'Maestro', and 'The Irishman', which entered the Oscar race following theatrical screenings. For domestic audiences, it also serves as a great opportunity to experience director Lee Chang-dong's new work in theaters first.

Interest in 'Love Impossible' extends beyond domestic audiences. The film has been invited to compete in the main competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, which opens on September 2. It will hold its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival ahead of its theatrical release. Through the festival, it aims to win major awards, including the grand prize, the Golden Lion.

Alongside revealing its theatrical and streaming release dates, Netflix unveiled the poster for 'Love Impossible' on this day. Set against a twilight sky with the moon visible, the poster captures 'Mi-ok' (Jeon Do-yeon) and 'Ye-ji' (Cho Yeo-jeong), who holds a camera, beneath trees swaying in the wind. The scene where 'Ye-ji', a director filming a documentary about a laid-off worker, and 'Mi-ok', the wife of the laid-off worker, look at each other as if discovering one another evokes an unusual atmosphere and tension, stimulating curiosity about the story that will unfold in 'Love Impossible'.

'Love Impossible' will be released in theaters on September 23 and on Netflix on November 6.
