Tunisia, which suffered three consecutive defeats and an early exit in the group stage of the 2026 FIFA North and Central America World Cup, has appointed Moin Chaabani, 45, from Tunisia, as its new national team head coach.

The Tunisian Football Federation announced in a statement, "Following an executive committee meeting, we have appointed Coach Chaabani as the head of the national team. His contract is for four years."

Tunisia took the drastic measure of replacing its head coach during the North and Central America World Cup, but ultimately tasted the bitterness of elimination with zero wins.

Making their third consecutive and seventh overall World Cup appearance, Tunisia suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat against Sweden in their Group F opener and promptly sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi the next day.

French-born Lamouchi, whose contract ran until 2028, was burdened with the dishonor of being the first manager sacked at the North and Central America World Cup.

The Tunisian Football Federation appointed Herve Renard, who previously led the Saudi Arabian national team, as his successor. However, following a 4-0 defeat to Japan in the second match and a 3-1 loss to the Netherlands in the third match, Tunisia was eliminated from the group stage with three losses in three matches.

After Renard also stepped down following the conclusion of the World Cup, the Tunisian Football Federation selected Coach Chaabani as the new national team leader. Chaabani previously led the Moroccan club Renaissance de Berkane, guiding them to their first-ever regular league title in the 2024-2025 season and winning the 2025 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup.

Having changed managers seven times since 2024, Tunisia will begin its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
