Following an earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, which is close to South Korea, a flood of accounts reporting that tremors were felt in the Busan and Ulsan regions has emerged.

At around 4:27 PM today (July 28), a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck an area 23 km south of Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.

The depth of the epicenter was analyzed to be 10 km, and the Korea Meteorological Administration stated, based on the analysis by the Japan Meteorological Agency, "Seismic waves may be felt in some domestic regions, so please be cautious about safety."

Vibrations from the earthquake were transmitted to some parts of South Korea as well.

Due to this earthquake, intensity 3 tremors were delivered to South Jeolla and Gwangju, South Gyeongsang, Busan, and Jeju Island. An intensity 3 vibration is a level that people indoors, particularly those in high-rise buildings, can noticeably feel, and stationary cars may sway slightly.

In fact, on social media, a post from Gangseo-gu, Busan read, "It shook so violently for a moment that I went out to the living room and saw the dining table moving, and the apartment group chat room is in an absolute uproar." Another post from Geumjeong-gu, Busan stated, "I was sitting in a chair and moved enough to feel dizzy," reporting that they felt the earthquake.

In addition, eyewitness accounts were posted in Ulsan saying, "Buildings shook, and people rushed outside in a panic."

Intensity 2 tremors were even transmitted as far as South Chungcheong and Gangwon regions, which are relatively distant from the Gyeongsang region. An intensity 2 vibration is a level that can only be felt by a few people resting quietly or located on the upper floors of buildings.

Posts asking if anyone else felt the earthquake around 4:30 PM in Daejeon were also uploaded to social media.

Subsequently, it was reported that over 150 calls reporting earthquake detections were received by the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters.
