Passengers experienced inconvenience today (July 28) at around 10:12 AM when a Mugunghwa train broke down and came to a halt at Suwon Station in Gyeonggi Province, forcing them to get off and transfer to another train.

The train in question was a Gyeongbu Line Mugunghwa train heading from Iksan, North Jeolla Province, to Yongsan, Seoul, and it reportedly suffered a malfunction due to an unconfirmed cause.

Korail had all 400 or so passengers disembark and guided them to use subsequent trains: a Saemaeul train at 10:22 AM (Gwangju/South Jeolla to Yongsan, Seoul) and an ITX-Maeum train at 10:32 AM (Busan to Seoul).

Korail plans to issue a 25 percent refund on ticket prices to passengers who suffered delays of 20 minutes or more.

A Korail official said, "We are investigating the cause of the train malfunction," adding, "No other train delays have been reported as a result of this incident."
