The first hot topic involves quite an absurd incident.
It was belatedly confirmed that due to a staff member's administrative error at Soonchunhyang University, 11 more freshmen than planned were admitted to the medical school this year.
According to the Ministry of Education, Soonchunhyang University selected 113 students during the additional recruitment process for unfilled slots in the medical school for the 2026 academic year in February of this year, which was 11 more than the quota.
The mistake happened when the staff member was calling additional recruitment successful applicants to check their enrollment intentions, miscounted the successful candidates, and caused 11 extra students to enroll.
The university reportedly found out about this only after notifying the successful applicants.
It is reported that the university self-reported the incident to the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education concluded that it would be difficult to cancel the admission of students who have already entered, and thus took measures to reduce the medical school recruitment quota by 11 students for the 2028 academic year.
This is because the recruitment guidelines and announcements for next year, the 2027 academic year, have already been finalized and published.
Additionally, the ministry requested the university to issue a warning disciplinary measure to the staff member responsible.
