While the Korea Football Association (KFA) has decided to run all remaining A-matches this year under an interim management system, Gus Poyet, who managed K League club Jeonbuk last year, has expressed his intention to our reporting team that he is open to the interim role and willing to apply through the open recruitment process.

Last week, the KFA decided to play all six scheduled A-matches this year under an interim coaching system and appoint a permanent head coach under the upcoming executive board, raising concerns.

This is due to significant constraints. Under the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee's newly tightened regulations, openly recruiting an interim manager accompanied by a coaching staff division would narrow the pool of choices, and a permanent manager taking over the helm in November would head straight into the Asian Cup without any prior matches.

Meanwhile, Poyet, who has consistently shown enthusiasm for the national team manager position, reaffirmed his willingness to apply despite these circumstances.

In a social media message sent to SBS, Poyet responded, "An interim manager is fine," adding, "I am willing to help South Korean football in this year's friendly matches."

Having led Jeonbuk to a double crown in the regular league and cup competition last year, he showed confidence, stating, "I know Korean players well" and "I can do a good job."

Regarding whether the "Poyet division" from his Jeonbuk days would apply together, he kept silent, stating it was a "security matter."

The association plans to finalize the schedule and evaluation methods and issue a public notice this week. As criticisms continue regarding the new method that reduced the authority of the National Team Committee, the K-Football Innovation Committee announced today (July 27) that it will discuss ways to enhance the independence of the committee and the rationality of the appointment process.
