It has been confirmed that a mid-ranking active-duty police officer is under investigation on charges of destroying evidence, including the mobile phone, of his teenage son who is suspected of illicit filming.

According to SBS reporting, the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency recently booked Inspector A, assigned to a police box in Jeonju, on charges including evidence destruction and launched a formal investigation.

Inspector A is accused of concealing evidence, such as discarding his high school son's mobile phone, after finding out that his son had attempted to illicitly film a female teacher.

Following a complaint filed by the victimized female teacher, the Jeonju Wansan Police Station investigated the case, and the son's case was sent to the prosecution in late June. It was later learned that the situation shifted dramatically when the National Police Agency stepped in.

Earlier this month, after allegations regarding the handling of an investigation involving Jang Yoon-ki, whose father is a senior police officer, surfaced through SBS reports, the National Police Agency initiated a comprehensive review of cases involving police families, during which Inspector A's case was reported.

It was confirmed that the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency secured circumstances indicating that Inspector A smashed and threw away his son's mobile phone, and conducted a seizure and search of Inspector A's residence and other locations last week.

A police official told SBS, "Under the special provisions on punishment between relatives, direct blood relatives cannot be punished, but booking them is possible," adding, "We are in the process of verifying the suspicions."

Inspector A reportedly posted a message on the internal police network implying that the investigation against him was unfair, which has drawn criticism from numerous police officers.

Following the suspicions regarding the investigation involving Jang Yoon-ki in Gwangju and the allegations surrounding a senior police officer known as the "Geoje King" in Gyeongnam, controversies involving senior police officials have now emerged in Jeonbuk as well, which is expected to further intensify calls for reform within the police organization.
