President Lee Jae-myung emphasized regarding the full-scale construction of the Korea Saebit Accelerator, a fourth-generation synchrotron radiation source, that "based on the Saebit Accelerator, which will establish itself as a world-class research infrastructure, Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, will stand tall as a new hub leading region-led growth."

President Lee wrote this on his social media today (July 27), stating, "The Saebit Accelerator, which will lead the future of South Korea's science, technology, and advanced industries, has powerfully broken ground today."

He added, "The government will support it to the end so that the innovations and discoveries that begin here can grow into South Korea's future growth engines."

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Basic Science Institute held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Saebit Accelerator at the Ochang synchrotron radiation accelerator site in Cheongju on this day.

A total project cost of 1.1643 trillion won has been invested in the Saebit Accelerator, with the goal of completion by the end of 2029.

The academic community expects it to serve as a foundation for basic science research capable of conducting world-class atomic-level analytical research.
