The 21st Criminal Settlement Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Cho Soon-pyo) held the first-instance sentencing hearing for former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was indicted on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act, at 2:00 PM today (July 27) and sentenced him to one year and six months in prison with a three-year suspension of execution.

As former President Yoon, who was indicted on charges of disseminating false information during his presidential campaign, received a confirmed sentence of a fine of 1 million won or more in this case, the People Power Party must return 39.7 billion won, including election expenses, to the National Election Commission.

Former President Yoon faced charges of disseminating false information during his December 2021 presidential campaign at a Kwanhun Club-hosted debate when he stated to the effect that he "had never introduced lawyer Lee (formerly of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Central Investigation Department) to former police station chief Yoon Woo-jin," as well as charges of disseminating false information in January 2022 when he stated that "he was introduced to Geonjin Beopsa Jeon Sung-bae by a party official and has never met him together with Kim (Keon-hee)."
