Director Danny Boyle's new film 'Ink' has been selected as the opening film for the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.

'Ink' has not only been chosen to open the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, which takes place this coming September, but has also advanced to the competition section.

Being premiered as the opening film at the Venice International Film Festival—one of the world's top three film festivals alongside the Cannes and Berlin film festivals—'Ink' is set to engage in fierce competition for the festival's highest honor, the Golden Lion. Director Lee Chang-dong's new film 'Possible Love' has also advanced to the competition section, setting up a showdown with 'Ink'.

'Ink' is scheduled to grandly open the festival through its world premiere on September 2, the opening day of the Venice International Film Festival.

In particular, past Venice opening films such as 'Gravity' and 'La La Land' achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim, eventually winning Academy Awards, drawing high anticipation for whether 'Ink' will also take home prizes.

Director Danny Boyle, who helm the project, shared his thoughts on the selection, stating, "I have visited the Venice International Film Festival several times, but attending with a film is a first and a great honor. I was captivated by James Graham's brilliant script, which deals with the birth of a new media that changed the world alongside the 1969 moon landing, which is why I decided to direct it."

Based on the Tony Award-nominated play of the same name, 'Ink' depicts the story of those who sought to change the world by delivering the news the public wanted during the massive media transformation period of 1969. James Graham is the playwright and screenwriter who participated in both the original stage play and the film's screenplay.

The star-studded cast also draws attention. BAFTA winner Jack O'Connell stars as Larry Lamb, the editor of 'The Sun', while Guy Pearce, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his intense performance in 'The Brutalist', plays media mogul Rupert Murdoch. They are joined by Golden Globe Best Actress winner Claire Foy from the TV series 'The Crown', completing a powerful acting ensemble.

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival will run from September 2 to September 12, 2026. Following its screenings at the festival, 'Ink' is scheduled to be released domestically in the latter half of the year.
