President Lee Jae-myung has commended the police's intensive crackdown on illegal vehicles, known as dapochap, during the first half of the year, stating, "This is a very well-done job. I thank and support you."

President Lee, who is currently carrying out a 7-day, 10-day overseas tour including San Francisco, U.S., and South America, posted on his social media today (July 26) sharing a news article about the police detecting 1,928 dapochap and apprehending 380 individuals in the first half of the year, writing his message alongside it.

Dapochap are vehicles whose actual operators differ from the registered owners because ownership transfers were not carried out, or vehicles with unclear ownership relations.

President Lee wrote, "While dapochap have been abused for crimes and practically neglected, the National Office of Investigation under the Korean National Police Agency conducting an intensive crackdown on these vehicles is a very well-done job."

He added, "I hope you will also swiftly and thoroughly crack down on other offenders infringing on people's livelihoods to reduce the public's worries."

The National Office of Investigation of the Korean National Police Agency announced that from February 2 to June 30, it conducted intensive investigations into dapochap centered around traffic crime investigation teams at provincial and metropolitan police agencies nationwide, detecting 1,928 vehicles and apprehending and forwarding 380 suspects.

Through this crackdown, approximately 30 million won in overdue fines was also collected from about 600 vehicles.
