A biological mother in her 50s who threatened her young daughter with a weapon and habitually abused her for nearly 10 years has been sentenced to prison.

The Cheongju District Court recently sentenced Defendant, a woman in her 50s indicted for violating the Child Welfare Act, to two years in prison.

In 2020 at her home in Cheongju, Defendant struck her then 8-year-old daughter twice on the head with a shower head for coming home late from school, and then brought a weapon from the kitchen, threatening her by saying, "Shall I kill you and go to prison?"

In early 2023 at a community service center, after her daughter yielded her turn to someone else, Defendant told her "time is money," cut her hair with scissors, and forced her to kneel with both hands raised for two hours.

In addition, it was revealed that Defendant has committed habitual violence from 2015 until recently, such as stabbing her daughter's calves with a pencil for poor academic performance, and chasing her daughter on a bicycle and ramming into her because she failed to properly find the meeting place.

The court pointed out, "The defendant has a past record of receiving disciplinary dispositions for child abuse, and the victim still suffers from psychological trauma."

The court also ruled, "Although the victim stated that she does not wish for the defendant's punishment, there were circumstances where the defendant pressured her into a settlement under the pretext of cutting off financial support, so this was reflected only to a limited extent in sentencing."
