The fallout from People Power Party Representative Kwon Young-jin's collar-grabbing altercation shows little sign of subsiding, despite his apology.

The People Power Party plans to discuss follow-up measures regarding the incident during its Supreme Council meeting on July 27.

Chief Spokesperson Choi Bo-yun met with reporters at the National Assembly today (July 26) and said, "It appears that many requests for disciplinary action regarding Representative Kwon's actions and remarks have been filed. At the party level, I expect these matters to be reviewed by the Ethics Committee."

She added, "Many demands from party members calling for strict punishment are being received. Voices are asking whether this matter can simply end with an apology," explaining, "We are fully aware of these sentiments, and they are expected to be discussed at tomorrow's Supreme Council meeting."

Following the commotion, Representative Kwon released a written apology and announced that he would step down from his intended posts as the upcoming Daegu City Party chapter chairman and the secretary of the Public Administration and Security Committee.

Consequently, the schedule for electing the Daegu City Party chairman has been temporarily postponed, and Representative Kang Myung-gu will take over as the secretary of the Public Administration and Security Committee.

However, criticism toward Representative Kwon continues.

Floor Spokesperson Choi Su-jin told reporters at the National Assembly on the same day, "Wouldn't it be appropriate for him to decide his own future?"

She emphasized, "Grabbing someone by the collar is tantamount to violence. Regardless of the reason, it is something that cannot happen in our party, and I hear it is the first time such a thing has occurred. Lawmakers believe that strong action must be taken to prevent recurrence."

She also noted that Representative Kwon has currently been referred to the Ethics Committee by an external civic group.
