The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that it will provide disaster recovery funds and other support to farms that suffered damage from abnormal low temperatures and high temperatures in April, as well as hail in June.

Specifically, the aid targets a total of 21,112 farming households, including orchard farms damaged by the abnormal low temperatures in April, garlic farms affected by bul-maneul (garlic with secondary growth, where cloves multiply or leaves re-emerge through stem gaps due to abnormal high temperatures and frequent precipitation between March and April), and farms affected by hail on June 11.

Following damage surveys by local governments for each disaster, the Ministry finalized a total of 38.397 billion won in disaster recovery funds through a resolution at the Agricultural Disaster Countermeasures Deliberation Committee on the 24th.

The scale of support by disaster type is 35.328 billion won for 18,990 farming households affected by low temperatures, 2.623 billion won for 1,756 households affected by bul-maneul due to abnormal high temperatures, and 446 million won for 366 households affected by hail.

In addition, the Ministry will provide postponed repayments and interest reductions on agricultural policy loans for the affected farms.

Farms with a damage rate of 30% or more are eligible for a one-year extension and interest reduction, while those with a damage rate of 50% or more can receive them for two years.

Furthermore, if affected farms require additional funds for business management, they can receive disaster countermeasure management loans at an annual interest rate of 1.8%.

Previously, abnormal low temperatures on April 7–8 and 21 caused fruit-setting failures, such as flowers failing to bear fruit or fruits failing to grow properly, across 10,174.4 hectares of orchard crops nationwide, including pears, apples, peaches, and grapes.

In addition, abnormal high temperatures and frequent rainfall between March and April caused bul-maneul damage spanning 996.7 hectares in major garlic-producing regions, including Gwangju in South Jeolla Province, South Gyeongsang Province, and North Gyeongsang Province.

On June 11, hail hit areas including Cheorwon and Jeongseon in Gangwon Province, and Jecheon and Chungju in North Chungcheong Province, causing damage to 155.8 hectares of crops such as apples, corn, and Chinese cabbage.
