A foreign national in their 30s has died after doing farm work during a heatwave.

According to fire authorities, a report was received at around 3:15 p.m. yesterday (July 25) that a Thai national in their 30s, identified as A, was found collapsed in Hwangsan-myeon, Haenam-gun, South Jeolla Province.

Fire authorities rushed an unconscious A to a nearby hospital, but A ultimately passed away.

Yesterday (July 26), the daytime high in Haenam-gun reached 33.7°C (93°F), with a heatwave warning in effect.

It was reported that A had complained of dizziness while working in a field and collapsed on the way back to their accommodation to rest.

Police believe A collapsed due to a heat-related illness and are investigating the exact circumstances of the death.

If A is officially classified as a heat-related illness fatality, it will mark the first death from a heat-related illness in the South Jeolla and Gwangju region this year.
