The scope of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Korean Tidal Flats," a habitat for endangered migratory birds and various other organisms, has been expanded.

The 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, currently taking place at BEXCO in Busan, confirmed the Phase 2 expansion of the "Korean Tidal Flats" today (July 25).

The newly added tidal flats are located in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, as well as Yeosu, Goheung, and Muan in South Jeolla Province.

This expansion recognizes the sites as a core habitat along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and a treasure trove of diverse marine life.
