The scope of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats," a habitat for endangered migratory birds and various other marine life, has been expanded.

During its 48th session held at BEXCO in Busan today, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee finalized the Phase 2 expansion of "Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats."

The newly added tidal flats are located in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, as well as Yeosu, Goheung, and Muan in South Jeolla Province.

Consequently, "Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats" now consists of six regions: ▲ Boseong-Suncheon-Yeosu-Goheung Tidal Flat ▲ Sinan-Muan Tando Bay Tidal Flat ▲ Muan Hamhaeman Tidal Flat ▲ Gochang Tidal Flat ▲ Seocheon Tidal Flat ▲ and Seosan Tidal Flat.

UNESCO World Heritage sites are categorized into cultural, natural, and mixed heritage. "Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats," which was inscribed as a natural heritage site in 2021, received a recommendation for approval of its boundary extension following evaluations by the advisory body.
