With wildfires continuing for nearly 10 days, Spain declared a national state of emergency on the night of the 23rd local time, stating that responding has become increasingly difficult due to worsening weather conditions, and requested assistance from the EU.

This is the first time the Spanish government has declared a national state of emergency due to wildfires.

In Spain, multiple fires have broken out simultaneously since the 15th in areas such as Zaragoza Province in central Spain and Guadalajara Province in the northeast, and a wildfire recently started near the Madrid region as well, prompting 10,000 people to evacuate from this area alone.

Data shows that large-scale wildfires in Spain this year have totaled 29 cases, more than three times the average number of occurrences for this period over the past 10 years.
