President Lee Jae-myung is dispatching a special envoy to the inauguration of newly elected Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori, Kang Yu-jung, senior spokesperson for the presidential office, announced in a written briefing today (the 24th).

Rep. Min Hong-chul of the Democratic Party, who serves as the head of the Korea-Peru Parliamentary Friendship Association, will lead the special delegation, accompanied by Rep. Kang Min-guk of the People Power Party and Rep. Lee Ki-heon of the Democratic Party.

It is unusual for a special envoy dispatched by President Lee to include a lawmaker belonging to the opposition People Power Party.

This is interpreted as a reflection of his will for national unity to secure bipartisan cooperation on matters concerning national interests.

The special delegation is scheduled to explain the South Korean government's governance philosophy and foreign policy to the Peruvian side, and deliver President Lee's message regarding the development of a comprehensive strategic partnership with Peru's new government, along with a personal letter.

In addition, the delegation plans to attend related events, such as a reception hosted by President Fujimori and the Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, to convey the government's commitment to deepening cooperation in the defense and security sectors with Peru, South America's largest defense cooperation partner.
