Oh Hyun-gyu of Beşiktaş came out on top against Lee Han-beom and Cho Gue-sung of FC Midtjylland in a "Korean Derby" showdown in the UEFA Europa League (UEL).

Turkish professional football club Beşiktaş defeated Denmark's FC Midtjylland 1-0 in the first leg of the 2026-2027 UEL second qualifying round held today (July 24, KST) at Tüpraş Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.

Beşiktaş will advance to the third qualifying round even with a draw in the away second leg scheduled to kick off at 2 a.m. on July 31.

Oh Hyun-gyu, Lee Han-beom, and Cho Gue-sung, who wore the South Korean national team jersey at the 2026 North and Central America World Cup, faced each other as opponents.

Oh Hyun-gyu started as Beşiktaş's frontline striker and played until the 18th minute of the second half.

He created scoring opportunities with two decisive passes, but his teammates failed to convert them into goals.

Midtjylland center-back Lee Han-beom played the full match, while Cho Gue-sung was substituted on in the 18th minute of the second half to lead Midtjylland's attack until the final whistle.

Midtjylland faced a difficult match after forward Friday Etim received a red card and was sent off just 15 minutes into the first half.

Beşiktaş secured the victory thanks to a goal scored by Orkun Kökçü in the 26th minute of the first half.
