Following President Chung Mong-gyu's resignation, the election deadline for choosing the next Korea Football Association (KFA) president has been significantly extended from the previous 60 days to a maximum of 8 months.

The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee held a board meeting and revised its regulations to allow the election deadline for member sports federation presidents to be set at up to 8 months.

While the existing rule of within 60 days is maintained, provisions were added allowing extensions of 60 days up to three times—totaling up to 6 months—in unavoidable circumstances, effectively extending the total deadline to up to 8 months.

As a result, the next KFA election can be held by early March next year, without being rushed, after overhauling related systems such as expanding the electoral college.

The K-Football Innovation Committee is currently pushing for plans to expand the electoral college to at least several thousand people.
