A doctor and hospital officials suspected of neglecting a patient in his 60s who suffered a cardiac arrest at a nursing hospital in Incheon have been referred to prosecutors.

The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's metropolitan investigation unit announced today (July 23) that it has booked and forwarded doctor A and other hospital officials at a nursing hospital in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, to the prosecution without detention on charges including involuntary manslaughter due to professional negligence and violations of the Medical Service Act.

Doctor A and the others are accused of failing to take appropriate action after a man in his 60s, identified as B, who was hospitalized at the nursing hospital in August of last year, suffered a cardiac arrest, leading to his death.

In September of the same year, B's bereaved family filed a complaint against doctor A and the others, stating, "The nursing hospital neglected a patient in cardiac arrest for about 20 minutes without rescue measures, causing his death."

Police stated, "We forwarded some of the charges to the prosecution in May of this year, but due to an objection from the bereaved family, the entire case has now been sent to the prosecution," adding, "Further investigation will be conducted by the prosecution."
