This summer's monsoon season has entered its final stage.

Following Jeju, the monsoon in the central and southern regions is projected to end early next week, triggering full-scale heatwaves.

However, due to the influence of the North Pacific high pressure, localized torrential downpours may continue even amid the intense heat.

During a briefing today (the 23rd), the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) stated that Jeju is considered to have ended its summer monsoon on the 19th as the North Pacific high pressure expanded and brought the island under its influence.

The agency also projected that the monsoon in the central and southern regions will end around Monday the 27th.

Prior to the end of the monsoon, rain driven by a stationary front is forecast for the greater Seoul area and Gangwon Province tomorrow and the day after, while showers will hit areas south of Chungcheong.

On the 26th, the stationary front is expected to move slightly southward, bringing rain to the central region, North Jeolla Province, and North Gyeongsang Province.

Expected precipitation for tomorrow is 30 to 80 mm for Baengnyeongdo and neighboring islands in the West Sea, 20 to 60 mm for the greater Seoul area and inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, and 5 to 30 mm for the east coast of Gangwon Province.

If the KMA's projections hold true, the monsoon in Jeju will have ended around its usual time, while the central and southern regions will see the monsoon end without significant delays compared to average years.

Following the end of the monsoon next week, full-scale heatwaves are expected to persist.
